What do I do?

Making improvements in infection prevention and control can start once the cause of the problem has been identified.

Once an organisation has identified where they need to focus to have maximum impact, the HCAI prevention and control strategy can be implemented using:

  • High Impact Interventions (HIIs)
  • Guidance on taking blood cultures
  • Information about dealing with Clostridium difficile outbreaks
  • The screening pathway for MRSA
  • Advice about transferring patients in the pre-hospital setting
  • Best practice for isolating patients
  • A focus on Critical Care
  • Renal tools
  • A bank of case studies outlining infection prevention and control good practice
  • Organisational transformational change to implement a multi-faceted approach to reductions in HCAI, as well as sustainability of these reductions
  • Communication resources that will provide staff, patients and visitors with information about HCAIs
